At Coups de Crayon, we observe before we breed. Rosalie hand-draws every litter, day after day, in her notebook — a way to truly know each Jack Russell Terrier before handing them to their family.
A small studio, on purpose.
We never produce more than two or three litters a year. That isn't a production limit — it's the time it takes to watch each puppy long enough to draw them accurately, and to really get to know them.
Our breeding dogs live with us in the house, not in an outdoor kennel run. They share our meals, our couch and our hikes, exactly like the dog you'll bring home.

Screened before the litter
A Primary Lens Luxation (PLL) genetic test and a patella exam on both parents, before any breeding. Results handed over in full, not summarized.
Socialized in a home studio
Daily handling from the first week on, gradual exposure to sounds, visitors and other animals. A well-adjusted Jack Russell doesn't happen by accident.
A notebook, not just a contract
Every family receives their puppy's original sketch, drawn before departure, and stays in touch with us for the dog's whole life — house-training, training, health questions.
The Jack Russell Terrier, and nothing else.
We don't diversify. Knowing one breed well — its temperament, its lines, its real needs — beats skimming the surface of several. It's a sharp, brilliant, sometimes stubborn dog, never boring.
It isn't a dog for everyone: it needs daily exercise, mental stimulation and a family ready to channel that energy. We say so plainly before any reservation, not after.
From your first question to the ride home.
You write to us
Tell us about your household: children, other pets, activity level, experience with terriers. We reply within one or two days, honestly — sometimes to tell you a Jack Russell wouldn't suit you.
We meet
Studio visits by appointment. You meet the parents, flip through the notebook from past litters, and see where the puppies grow up.
Reservation and sketch
A $500 deposit confirms your place. Around week five, Rosalie draws each puppy individually — it's often when each one's personality comes into focus.
Going home at eight weeks
Your puppy leaves vaccinated, dewormed, microchipped and examined by our veterinarian — with their original sketch framed, a health record and a blanket that smells like the litter.
A litter is expected this fall.
